Whilst it was the force of Dylan Thomas’ words that impelled the author to write Dylan’s Gower and To Dylan, that voice is more distant here.
Robert first visited Gower as a child. He has memories of banks of hedgerows bursting with wild flowers. At Rhossili, there used to be a sign that pointed out across the sea. It read: Patagonia 8000 miles.
Years later, he travelled to Argentina and a number of poems, in this volume, reflect his interest in Patagonia and in the Welsh who settled there.
He continues to mine the rich seam of tales and legends, relating to Gower, that he has come across, over the years, in conversation with Gower people.

Robert Gurney is a fine observer of small details, which he often turns into very impressive images. His poems are accessible and the conversational diction makes each one a pleasure to read. He unveils many aspects of Gower, such as harvest time, but his poetry is strengthened by other experiences in his life and they add depths to his appealing poetic voice.
