BETSY ROBERTS. A tale of survival in the early Americas!
This story is set in the early pioneering era of late eighteenth and early nineteenth century America. It is a gripping, horrifying tale based in part on true historical events and characters.
The central character, Betsy Roberts, was kidnapped, abused, then was caught up in the evil, murderous activities of the notorious Harpe brothers, Micajah and Wiley Harpe, The Terrible Harpes. She later became a perpetrator, unwillingly at first but later complicit in their heinous crimes.
How she survived this truly appalling experience, even eventually prospering later in New York during the eighteen hundreds, and creating a successful business and family dynasty there as depicted in the second part of this story, is illustrated through her extraordinary courage and determination – but at a cost!

5.0 out of 5 stars. The Harpes were truly TERRIBLE!!
Just bought “Betsy Roberts” by N.G. Neville.
I don’t usually read historical novels but it was recommended by a friend. Plus there was mention of serial killers.
I could NOT put it down!! The characters & historical detail are superb.
You know you’ve had a good read, when after closing the book you are still thinking of it days later.
I would highly recommend this to EVERYONE!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must buy! Verified Purchase
Just by reading this excellent first novel by N.G Neville, makes you appreciate the sheer effort gone into the research of the characters, dates, and the geography of the then embittered and barren landscapes. All brilliantly described, as the stories that unfold take you along with menace, page by page.
Well done. Really enjoyed your book.

A harrowing tail of survival. Heroism or absolute ruthlessness…You decide!
You can’t help but wonder what you might have done in Betsy Robert’s position. Would you have been a ‘Betsy’ or a ‘Susan’?
This story would make a fantastic film, I look forward to what comes next from NG Neville.

Overall, I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. Though it is a bit repetitive at the beginning of the book, it is well worth the building of the story as the second part is phenomenal. The story is really engaging and perfect for those who want to sink their teeth into a length and gripping story about an ambitious and clever woman.
